Lapis Lazuli Mala with Tree Charm
What is Japa Mala?
A Japa Mala, better known in its simpler name as Mala, is a string of prayer beads commonly used in Hinduism, Jainism, Sikhism, Buddhism and Shintō for the spiritual practice known in Sanskrit as japa. It usually is made up of 108 beads and is not so different from other forms of prayer beads used in other religions as they serve to create a connection between the meditator and the focus of the meditation, allowing for the practice to meet with completion of prayer or mantra repetition.
Malas have a very powerful effect on the mind, body, and spirit. They can be used as a tool to manifest a desired outcome. They can also be used daily as a healing necklace or bracelet. Malas beads can be made of a variety of healing and spiritual materials. Often used are special types of woods with grounding qualities and different types of healing crystals.
Why Mantra Meditation?
Mantra is a Sanskrit term, with “man” meaning “mind” and “tra” meaning “release.” Though there are many forms of meditation, to focus the mind on a mantra allows for a very specific kind of guidance through the inner world. Repeating a mantra over and over again, whether it be silently, or aloud is a great way to boost awareness and improve ones focus and mental power.
